London in 1951

This is a short film about London in the year 1951. (59Mb)

It features the Festival of Britain exhibition on the South Bank of The Thames.

Over 8.5 million people visited the Festival during the 20 weeks or so it was open.

The film shows a bright, looking forward view of Great Britain in 1951.

Why did so many people visit the Exhibition do you think?

What were people thinking after the end of the Second World War?

60 years later does our world now look like the Exhibition did then?
